A: modern cars have an array of dashboard lights that indicate problems with various aspects of the car. 

Most people are aware and comfortable with the usual lights (handbrake on, lights on, low oil pressure etc. etc.). However there are now many different lights and warning messages for additional systems within modern cars that are present on what seems to be even the simplest of vehicles. If one of these lights remains illuminated constantly, or seems to flash regularly etc. then it is worth checking the owners manual to ensure this is nothing serious.

Lights that are RED or YELLOW are typically SERIOUS WARNING or WARNING respectively and should be checked.
