WET Belt / Timing Belt Service
Replacing a WET timing belt is crucial for your vehicle's engine performance and longevity.
- Preventing Engine Damage: A worn-out timing belt can lead to severe engine damage, including bent valves and damaged pistons.
- Maintaining Performance: A wet timing belt can negatively impact your engine's performance, leading to reduced fuel efficiency and power.
- Avoiding Costly Repairs: Replacing a timing belt is a relatively inexpensive maintenance task compared to the potential cost of repairing engine damage caused by a broken belt.
- Regular Maintenance: Regular replacement can save you from unexpected and costly repairs down the line. It's essential to consult your vehicle's owner manual or speak with a professional for specific recommendations on when to replace your wet timing belt.
WET Belts are used in place of the older timing chain / timing belt principle on older engine designs. While this is essentially performing the same function, the placement of this inside the engine itself makes services more time consuming. This can also mean leaving the service later can cause more problems for the engine itself.
WET Belts are used by most manufacturers including Ford, VW, Vauxhall, BMW, Mercedes and have been used in engines since 2015 onwards. This mean vehicles approaching 10 years old and higher mileages will begin to approach the time for a WET Belt service.
How often should a WET Belt be replaced? Manufacturer guidelines for servicing and replacing WET belts varies from as early 80,000 to as late as 140,000 miles. We have however seen early servicing required on various models and would recommend these are serviced earlier rather than waiting until the recommended interval.
